› Jim Plush's Blog: Censorship at Zend??? Zend Encoder swept under the rug

On Jim Plush's blog today, there's a new post as a follow up to his previous post concerning the Zend Encoder and some issues with sites that can decode its files.

I made a post on the Zend Forums asking for a statement on the decoding of Zend Encoded files.

Notice how there is NO MESSAGE. Why would they delete the text of my forum post? I was asking for a statement and a patch fix for a list of sites offering the decoding of encoded files. Is Zend trying to sweep this under the rug because they're looking to dump the encoder project and don't want to waste any money on fixing this issue? This doesn't look good for Zend PR.

It's definitely interesting to see that they removed the post - not just replied with a simple "We're looking into it" or "We're aware of the situation. Thank you for your input" kind of thing. Instead, they take the "what forum post?" approach. Well, Jim's posted another message that, as of the writing of this post, is still there, but unanswered...

› Tim Bray's Blog: PHP Calendar Fun

In a pointer from this blog post on Adam Trachtenberg's site today, there's a story of some struggles that Tim Bray has been having when it comes to online calenders and coordinating with those in his life.

Here's the problem: Dr. Wood and I both have complicated jobs plus we have a family, so just like everyone else in the world, keeping in sync is a problem. Herewith a painful half-finished story of trying to solve it with technology. The conclusion is painfully obvious: whoever first provides a family-scheduling tool that non-geeks can use and Just Works with the tools most people run their calendars on is going to make a lot of money and do Humanity a major service.

He goes through

Something must have happened to this rowboats family, as it was obviously well-loved at one time.

› Requirements to be called to the BC bar

I have started investigating what I need to do to become a lawyer in British Columbia. The best starting points I have found are here:

I need to talk more with my friend (and lawyer) Keith, who put the bug in my ear a few years ago. I also hope that Eben and Dan from the SFLC and Michael Geist can help me plan.

I already have a few credits from Columbia, however, I bet that these may have no use for working towards my degree.

› PHPCon UK, London

On Friday the 10th of February 2006 I will be presenting a talk on the eZ components at the PHPCon in London. In this talk I will explain the structure, contents and workings of the eZ components library. It should give a good overview of its architecture and at the same time give you an introduction on how to use the components. This conference is extremely cheap (£50) and there is a good line up of speakers. If you have time, please join !

› PHP 4.4.2RC2 Released

Yesterday I released PHP 4.4.2RC2, which should be the final release candidate for PHP 4.4.2. The major fixes in this release will be the problems with current() and key(), the problem with Apache 2 subrequests and we modified the behavior of header() so that it does not allow more than one header to be set at once. This prevents header injection. Please test !
